The NHS Innovations Hubs have been set up to provide services for the management
of intellectual property for the NHS.
Ideas for new treatments and new or improved devices need to be protected, often by
filing a patent application or in some other way. Similarly, converting ideas into new
products - and rejecting those ideas which will not make it - requires specialist skills.
NHS Innovations Hubs have been established based on the geographical regions of the
nine English Regional Development Agencies. Each serves all the NHS organisations in it’s
area, helping the NHS trusts and primary care trusts to develop their understanding of innovation,
identify those new ideas which need development, and advise on licensing ideas to industry.
